Importing viewer users from a CSV file

This article will show you how to import viewer users from a CSV file.  This can be helpful if you are migrating a lot of users from a different system.

Prepare file

Prepare your csv file so that the columns are in the format FirstName, LastName, Login, Password, Email, Group. The group and email fields are optional. You can prepare the file in a program such as Excel or Numbers or most database programs.

IMPORTANT: You must export the file as a CSV file. You cannot import a .xls file.

For standard users

This is an example of the CSV format for importing reader users who will be logging in through ScreenSteps.

Prepare file
For remote authentication users

This is an example of the CSV format that is used for importing users that will be logging in through an external system (using Single Sign-on).

The RemoteUser heading column is required.

Go to Account Settings

Go to Account Management > Users

Click on Users > Import Users

Upload File

Upload File

Choose a file (the csv file that you exported) and then select Upload.  Your users will be imported. If you included an email address then they will be sent an email notification of their new account.

Andrew Nilsen

I received the following error message when I tried to import my users from a csv file:

There was an error parsing your CSV file: uninitialized constant Admin::ImportUsersController::CSV

Any guidance on how to proceed?
