I'm so excited to begin the Onboard Training Workshop!
Below is a short introductory video that explains how the workshop is going to flow and why it's so important to have good onboard training.
How the workshop will run
Instead of doing a bunch of webinars (and trying to coordinate times for a global audience), I'm going to:
- Create a short video that explains a training concept
- Provide an exercise to help you apply the concept
- Include a link for scheduling a coaching call with me
This allows you to move at a pace that works for you AND for us to collaborate on a training solution that will have a big impact.
Why you should invest in onboard training
I suppose I'm preaching to the choir since you've already signed up for the workshop : ) but I wanted to share some interesting data to encourage you to put in the effort that it's going to take to upgrade your onboard training.
Because it will take some effort.
The first six months
According to BambooHR,
"31% of people have left a job within the first six months, with 68% of those departing within three months...and if you just look at hourly employees, the number of employees leaving a job within the first six months jumps to 50%."
How does that compare to your team?
Are you losing 30-50% of your new hires within the first 6 months?
Preventing turnover
BambooHR asked those employees who left within 6 months if anything could have changed their decision to leave. Respondents said that if they had "clearer guidelines as to what their responsibilities were" or if they received "more effective training" then they may have decided to stay.
So, why invest in onboard training? Because it could actually reduce your employee turnover!
Also, if you have a great onboard-training program, then you'll be prepared for employee turnover when it happens.
What employees actually want
BambooHR asked employees (those who stuck around and those who left) what they wanted from their employer during their first few months.
It wasn't free food. And it wasn't video games.
What employees want are:
- On-the-job training
- Review of policies
- Review of procedures
New employees just want to know what is expected of them and guidance on how to do it.
What is your company telling new employees?
When new employees first join your team, the level of organization and clarity in training says a lot about your business––you are telling employees whether you can (and know how to) help them succeed.
When they see an organized training plan, employees feel that they can trust you with their development and success.
