To apply viewing permissions to an article:
- Click the padlock icon next the article title.
- Restrict viewing permissions for the article by selecting "Assigned Users or Groups."
- Select the group or individual users who can view the article.

Can we do this across the Article and Manuals and Chapters (all at once - parent to child[s])?
Can the update be done as a mass update or do we need to do this individually?

@Marshall: Yes - to assign permissions to your site on a more bulk scale (vs article by article), you'll want to assign user permissions to user groups. You can read more about that in section 2.1.1 of this article: https://help.screensteps.com/a/1345029
